By continually killing bacteria, the sanitizer provides protection for swimmers. This important role makes the sanitizer the most critical product in pool care. That's why BioGuard has made sanitizing the first step in pool care programs.

BioGuard Stabilized Chlorinating products come in several forms for your convenience. They offer efficient, continuous protection against bacteria. Another efficient sanitizer, especially for indoor pools, is BioGuard Brominating Tablets. .

Brominating Tablets

Our compressed brominating product:

• Is a good alternative to chlorine
• Provides activity over a large pH range
• Causes fewer odors than chlorine making this product ideal for indoor pools

Oxidizing is the second step in BioGuard®'s chlorine based pool care programs. Oxidizers "shock" the water and chemically destroy the organic contamination introduced by bathers and the environment. Contaminants enter the pool constantly through swimmers and the environment. Shocking keeps the water clear and sparkling.

For SoftSwim® Program pool owners, use SoftSwim C, our long-lasting enhanced hydrogen peroxide clarifier that keeps water clear in non-chlorine pools.

BioGuard® Lite®
BioGuard Lite® is the preferred oxidizer. It offers 4 products in 1. Pool owners can shock the pool and return to the water 15 minutes after use.
• Multi-purpose, 4-in-1 product oxidizes, clarifies, buffers and is also a flocculent
• Unique blend of oxidizing and clarifying agents to restore water clarity
• Buffers help maintain proper water balance

Burn Out® WP
This shock product is used specifically for white plaster (gunite) pools. It needs to be pre-dissolved before application in vinyl, fiberglass and colored plaster pools. This will prevent the product from accumulating on the bottom of the pool which can cause staining.

Burn Out 35
This product is designed for all pool types. This is different from other chlorine shock products because it dissolves almost instantly and does not affect calcium hardness. That means Burn Out 35 won't cloud water and is ideal for hard water areas.

Algae are microscopic plants — and the most common, troublesome aspect of pool maintenance. They can make your pool cloudy and murky. They also can clog your filter, and increase chlorine demand even before they are visible. Algae usually start in hard-to-reach crevices in the pool surface or areas of poor circulation. You need algae protection the most when water temperatures rise. That's why the middle of the swimming season is prime time for algae to develop.

Prevention is by far the best way to fight algae. That's why an algae preventative is part of every BioGuard® maintenance program. In spite of preventive measures, however, outbreaks can sometimes occur. Luckily, BioGuard has the products to prevent algae, control algae and kill algae. Preventing algae is the third step in either of our 3-Step Programs.

SoftSwim® pool owners should go to the SoftSwim Program section and refer to the first step. SoftSwim A is a premium algicide that's formulated to prevent algae effectively in biguanide pools.

ALGAE KILLER
There's only one algae killer listed here, because Banish® is our newest, most effective algicide ever. It contains a patented chelant that prevents staining — a common occurrence with other copper-based algicides.

ALGAE INHIBITORS
As we mentioned before in the Algae Product section, prevention is the best defense when it comes to algae. BioGuard® knows how important it is.

In our SoftSwim program, SoftSwim A provides extraordinary protection against algae growth.

Optimizer® Plus
Optimize the program!! This product helps all BioGuard programs work more efficiently. It buffers the water and helps keep the water balanced. You have to work less to keep the water balanced as swimmers and rain affect it.

This is BioGuard®'s most effective algae preventative.

• Concentrated formula needs application only every two weeks
• Stable in sunlight and will not evaporate
• Activity increases as water temperature rises (and you need protection the most)
• Powerful surfactant/wetting agent makes Back Up able to work in tiny cracks and crevices where algae starts
• Won't affect pH levels
• Non-staining

Algae All 60™
This product is a highly effective algae preventative. It is recommended for use with pools with an attached spa or water features.

• Effective on all algae types
• pH neutral

Use Algae All 60 as STEP 3 of the BioGuard Once-a-Week 3-Step Program and the BioGuard 3-Step Program if your pool has an attached spa or fountain.

ALGAE CLEANERS
We most often recommend Erase™ because it is effective on algae deposits. Please see below for more details.

Erase is a unique, non-metallic pool cleaner. It works with the chlorine residual to effectively remove algae deposits.

BioGuard® balancers are essential to an effective pool program. Maintenance will be easier and you can prevent routine pool care issues from growing into major problems.

When your pool water is balanced, there is the proper ratio of mineral content and pH. Balanced water prevents pool water from being corrosive or scale-forming. In order to keep your water balanced, you may need to use one or more of the products in BioGuard's line of balancers. They include products that control scale, prevent metallic stains, adjust the pH and total alkalinity, and correct mineral imbalances.

The benefits of balanced water include:
• Reducing maintenance costs and chlorine consumption
• Preventing equipment corrosion, etching of plaster, and wrinkling of liners
• Preventing eye irritation due to low pH
• Avoiding pH bounce due to rain, swimmer load, and other chemical application
• Preventing serious damage that scaling can cause to pool surfaces and equipment
• Increasing swimmer comfort
• Allowing chlorine residual to work most efficiently

The water will remain in balance if kept inside the following ranges.

You should take a water sample to your BioGuard Dealer for professional analysis. We recommend doing this before spring opening, mid-season, and before closing in the off-season. This will help you are maintain the water at the proper levels. You can get a container from your BioGuard professional or use a clean container from home.

If a problem does occur, your BioGuard Dealer will suggest the right BioGuard balancers so your water is balanced.

Anti-Foam

Stow-Away®

If you use a cover during the off-season months, you'll need to protect and store it once it's removed. This product is a cleaner/deodorizer that allows the pool cover to be stored wet and still remain protected.

Products in this category clear cloudy water and restore the sparkle to your pool water. Enhancers will also help your filter work more efficiently by acting as a coagulant to bind tiny particles together so they are easier for your filter to remove.

Cloudy water can occur from a variety of conditions, including poor filtration and circulation, algae growth, various outdoor debris, plaster dust and swimmer contaminants. Whatever the cause, BioGuard® products can clear up your cloudy water fast.

Polysheen® Blue

This product is a water clarifier that is used to clear up cloudy water fast. It works on small suspended particles in the water.
